Winners were announced Nov. 14 at the conclusion of judging in the Still Photography and Multimedia Divisions in 67th College Photographer of the Year competition on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.
The 67th College Photographer of the Year is Magnus Holm of the Danish School of Journalism. Holm's work was awarded Gold in the Portfolio category. Holm's entry in the International Picture Story category also won a gold award.
The Runner-up College Photographer of the Year with a Silver award in the Portfolio category is Jabin Botsford of Western Kentucky University. Jake May of Central Michigan University earned a Bronze award with his portfolio.
In the Multimedia Division, Ariana van den Akker of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was awarded both gold and silver in Solo Journalist Story or Essay. Zack Conkle of Western Kentucky University took gold in Multimedia Project. Kathryn Carlson from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill won gold in Individual Multimedia Story or Essay and students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill swept all places in the Large Group Multimedia category.
Joe Weiss moderated the Multimedia Division judging and professionals who graciously donated their time, energy and expertise to judge were: Robert Hood, Amanda Lucidon, Bob Sacha and Whitney Shefte. The Still Division was judged by Cathaleen Curtiss, Kurt Mutchler, Janet Reeves, and Wally Skalij and moderated by Rick Shaw, POYi Director. Judges viewed 14,100 still photographs and 218 multimedia entries submitted by 573 student photographers from 125 colleges and universities in 17 countries. The annual College Photographer of the Year competition is co-sponsored by the University of Missouri and Nikon, Inc.
