Dr. L. H. Newcomb, Professor Emeritus and former chair of the department, received the 2012 Ralph Davenport Mershon Award from the Ohio State University Alumni Association.
Dr. Robert Agunga, Associate Professor in ACEL, has been chosen to serve as Director of The Ohio State University's Center for African Studies.
The Smucker Leadership Scholars Fund, part of a $1 million gift to OSU, was donated by Smuckers Chairman of the Board, Tim Smucker. The Leadership Scholars Fund will support undergraduates from a variety of majors pursuing a minor in Leadership Studies in ACEL.

Ohio State's ACT Chapter won the John Deere National Chapter of the Year at the 2012 National Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow conference held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
