OTA advances its mission to promote and protect organic agriculture and trade through legislative and regulatory action. On behalf of our members, we provide the critical trade association roles of watch dogging, advocacy, and expert analysis.
OTA was represented at the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Sept. 15 hearing on The National Organic Law at 20: Sowing Seeds for a Bright Tomorrow marking the 20th anniversary of the Organic Foods Production Act. Speaking on behalf of OTA, Sarah Bird of Annies Inc., OTAs Board Vice President from the United States, provided testimony on how far the organic industry has come and what its going to take to protect organic in the future. Former Chairman Senator Patrick Leahy served as honorary Chair for the hearing. Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Kathleen Merrigan also testified.
