Shipping Charges

What products are included?

Items which pass through the Nashville Distribution System (TRICOR Logistics Center) are subject to shipping charges. Items excluded from these charges are all Agriculture items, Print, Data and items covered under contractual agreements.

Does this include products which are contractually obligated?

Most items covered by contractual obligations are not subject to additional shipping charges. Usually, shipping has already been figured into these items.

Fuel prices go up and down. Will the shipping costs also go up and down?

Shipping involves more than a fuel charge. Rolling stock and labor are also a part of the equation. In any event, historical data from the U.S. Department of Energy demonstrates that downturns are usually temporary and seasonal. Historically, gas prices drop after Labor Day, the end of the vacation driving season. The data indicates that prices are likely to stabilize and then rise again after the first of the year, with the price increases accelerating from April through August. Diesel fuel costs historically respond in a somewhat inverse manner as these distillates are also used in home heating fuels. The DOE projects that, overall, prices will continue to rise on an annual basis. We will evaluate shipping charges on an annual basis. This has been done and there will be no increase at this time.

Is the methodology used to determine the shipping charges competitive with our competition?

Our objective was only to cover our costs rather than have transportation be a profit center, as our competitors do. Therefore, TRICOR has historically chosen a simpler flat rate (percentage) method to compute shipping charges instead of basing these charges on item weight or dimensions.

Why should a customer have to pay shipping charges on items that are manufactured at a plant in their facility?

Our products are trucked to our centralized TRICOR Logistics Center for shipment to customers. It is not possible for us to ship directly from our plants just as it normally isn’t possible for a consumer to buy products directly from a factory which may be only a few blocks from their home.
