The Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training (ADST) is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1986. It advances knowledge of U.S. diplomacy and supports training of personnel at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) at the State Department’s George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center, where it is located. Check out our website at www.adst.org.
ADST’s activities include programs in diplomatic oral history, book publication, exhibits, research, and training of student interns. Its Foreign Affairs Oral History Collection is available on the website of the Library of Congress. It also sponsors the U.S. Diplomacy website.
Project director for the initial construction of the site was former Senior Foreign Service officer Paul Blackburn. He was guided by an advisory committee that included ADST President (Ambassador) Kenneth Brown, Ambassador Charles Anthony Gillespie, American University School of International Service Dean Louis Goodman, Cox Foundation Executive Director (Ambassador) Clyde Taylor, FSI Deputy Orientation Coordinator JoAnne Wagner and FSI School of Leadership and Management Associate Dean Jack Zetkulic.
In addition, 20 college interns rendered invaluable service to the website’s construction over six semesters during 2005-2006. They were: Lee Anthony, Marc Coda, Elly Elhamoumi, Scott Foster, Abigail Hahn, Carey Hale, Jennifer Kerner, Joseph Larkin, Rachel Levy, Ross MacDonald, Adrienne McCall, Victoria Miranda, Caitlin Moore, Rhonda Polzin, Kristin Simmons, Lindsey Snedden, Sara Steele, Kathleen Thomas, Nicholas Vucic, and Melissa Zavislak.
In Fall 2010, USDiplomacy.org was expanded and the navigation system was rebuilt by Eric Van Curen, a college intern.
