Solid service, refreshing drinks, and good food. Fish options are generally tasty, though I found the grilled fish portion size a little small. For lunch there is a variety of American fare available including salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. My favorite lunch plates included the organic field greens salad topped with fresh ahi and the fish tacos. At night the menu has an Italian influence, offering a number of pasta choices as well as traditional entrees like veal parmesan. Dessert is a no brainer, you've gotta go with the chocolate rip curl!

A new spot worth worth poking your head in when you're strolling down Valencia. Lots of neat audio-related electronics. Headphones, vintage suitcases with amps and speakers, old and new stereo equipment. They also have a photobooth and if you checkin on Yelp, you'll (currently) get a free credit. Didn't cash mine in yet, but that's a fun freebie.

Kona International Airport at Keahole

Kona Airport is a guaranteed buzz kill after a relaxing trip. Last time I was here the security line wasn't accepting mobile boarding passes and there was no sign posted. Fortunately, they allowed suckers like myself to step out of line, print passes, and return, but after waiting an hour to get to the front of security it was a painful detour. You also have to endure another screening after security for fruits and veggies, why they combine these into a single smooth process is beyond me. Have a business class ticket and looking for a priority line? Sorry you're out of luck. Ah well, I guess Kona Airport is simply a part of the price of admission for quality time in paradise.

Just your friendly neighborhood bike rental dry cleaner place, seriously. It is a very Mom and Pop establishment which means it pretty cute. The bikes are quite basic, and I'm not sure maintenance is a top priority, but mine worked fine and it took our little group only a few minutes to rent the bikes and get going. It's a convenient location relative to Crissy Field and the Golden Gate bridge. Guess I'd use them again.

Sure it's a bit of an antique, but if you happen to live in the vicinity it's quite the fun neighborhood accessory. I wish I could say I leveraged this local resource more frequently, but on the occasions that I have, I've always come away glad they're there. I'm guessing it's not really an economic pursuit for the owner, but rather the passion of a well-heeled local... either way I'm glad they've stuck around since it makes for a relaxing night out in the 'hood.

One of the more casual restaurant options at Hualalai. Can't go wrong with the fish tacos for lunch, for dinner I went with the roasted chicken which was also quite nice. Since it's on the edge of the main property they seem to be a little less busy than the other dining options, which can be a good thing on a holiday weekend.

I had a very positive experience doing my V-day shopping here. My salesperson was friendly and helpful, he quickly directed me to pieces that matched generally what I was going for and I eventually settled on the perfect gift. The pendant needed a minor adjustment and the jeweler (hiding in the back) was willing to set aside his immediate work so I wouldn't have to come back again to pick it up. Of course the final test was when the gift was given... the result? All smiles.

'ULU Ocean Grill + Sushi Lounge

Top notch dining on the Big Island. The red snapper whole fish was awesome as was the surf and turf (keahole lobster and island raised filet mignon). While they have "Sushi Lounge" in their name they don't offer a full sushi menu, but the rolls and sashimi they do provide are quite good. As you'll discover all over the island Ahi is almost always on offer and is a "can't go wrong" fish to order (in rolls, sashimi, however...).  

In the morning ULU offers a brunch buffet and full breakfast menu. I'd give their buffet 4 stars as far as fancy hotel spreads are concerned. Decent offering of the usual fare including freshly made omelets, scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, waffles, etc.
