Regional Implementation Grants

Read about our RIG offerings for the 2012-13 school year.

History of the RIGs:

Regional Implementation Grants (RIGs) were first introduced in the summer of 2011 with the goal of increasing the number of districts involved in the new evaluation system. Administered through our state’s Educational Service Districts (ESDs), 65 districts were selected to participate. These districts did not go through the same rigorous process of developing a new evaluation system as our pilot sites did, but rather acted as “early adopters” of the pilot work. In addition to following the work of the pilot districts, they also followed the model and used the experience of the ESD 101 Consortium in collaborating on their work.

To support the work, ESD received a grant to administer their RIG consortia and each RIG district received funds to cover the cost of participation and implementation efforts. With our 65 RIG districts (as well as several unofficial districts who participated in some of the work) and 16 districts participating as a pilot sites, we had almost one third of the districts involved in the new evaluation system in one form or another.

Overview

The focus for the 2011-12 RIGs was to learn more about the evaluation system, select an instructional framework, and get ready to pilot for the 2012-13 school year. The consortiums are comprised of 5–13 districts, who collaborated around the evaluation implementation activities by agreeing to the identified assurances as a group. Led by Helene Paroff (who also leads the ESD 101 pilot consortium’s efforts), each ESD coordinated the work of the districts within the regional consortium. OSPI, along with the rest of the TPEP Steering Committee, determined a list of assurances each district must agree to in applying.
