March 2010
E2SSB 6696 passed, creating the Teacher/Principal Evaluation Pilot.

June 2010
The TPEP Steering Committee selected our eight pilot districts and consortium.

School Year 2010-11
Our pilots sites developed new teacher and principal evaluation models.

July 2011
OSPI released a report to the Legislature. Superintendent Dorn recommended three research-based instructional frameworks for the statewide model, plus a waiver process for districts who’d like to use something different.

School Year 2011-12
Pilot sites implement, test, and refine their newly developed evaluation systems.

September 2011
OSPI introduced the Regional Implementation Grants, allowing the 65 RIG districts to piggyback on the work of the pilots and get a head start in implementation.

March 2012
The Legislature passed ESSB 5895, which requires OSPI to adopt three “preferred” instructional and leadership frameworks and removes the possibility of a waiver process for an alternate framework. For an overview of all the changes made by ESSB 5895, read the bill report.

September 1, 2012
OSPI has until September 1st, 2012 to identify up to three research-based instructional frameworks and leadership frameworks. The instructional frameworks will be Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching, Dr. Bob Marzano’s Teacher Evaluation Model, and CEL’s 5D+ Teacher Evaluation Rubric 2.0. AWSP’s Leadership Framework will be one of the up to three approved leadership frameworks, with the other being The Marzano School Leadership Evaluation Model, chosen as the apparent successful contractor from RFQQ No. 2012-09.

December 1, 2012
OSPI has until December 1st, 2012 to adopt rules to provide a common methodology for reaching a final summative performance rating and adopt rules describing level of the performance ratings.

School Year 2013-14
Statewide implementation of the new system.
