Extending the Lessons: As your child engages with the animals he or she discovers through Curious George at the Zoo, you can take advantage of new opportunities to nurture your child’s interest in nature.

Depending on where you live, you’re probably not too far from educational facilities and attractions like zoos, sanctuaries, aquariums, Audubon societies or wildlife reserves where families are encouraged to visit and explore. You can even help your child discover wildlife in your own backyard and local neighborhood, and then work with your child to create a record of discoveries.

Fun learning activities might include:
Bird Watching
Go on a backyard bird watch to see how many varieties of birds you can find. Depending on where you live, why not try to spot squirrels, rabbits or other wildlife?
Bug Crawl
Take a walk and pointing out any insects you come across. Where do they live? See if your child can find evidence of where the backyard animals and insects live. Look for burrows, nests, hives and hollows, and then help your child determine what might live there.

Nature Drawing
Is your child an artist? Have him or her draw some of the animals around your neighborhood.
Zoo Trip
Take a trip to the zoo or aquarium and discuss the various animals that live there--and how their zoo habitats differ from their natural habitats.
Wildlife Scrapbook
Create a wildlife scrapbook. Include all of your favorite photos and drawings and organize them into groups (e.g. reptiles and mammals, eat eaters and plant eaters--which animals eat both meat and plants?)
World Animal Atlas
Compile a world animal atlas. What regions of the world do the wild animals you saw at the zoo come from?
