Movie casting can be one of the most rewarding jobs in the industry.
You get to see the people you chose for their roles appearing on the
screen, acting out their parts in the finished product. Whoever does
the casting for a movie is kind of like the mother of the cast - from
her, the cast is born, and the look and feel of the story is greatly
influenced. We naturally come to associate the movies we love with
specific actors, even though the script was brilliant, and the
director a genius.
Pay attention the next time you watch a movie with a superb cast that
just seems to have been made to work together. Casting a movie
involves not only being able to choose the best individual actor for
a part, but also being able to choose a cast that you know will work
well together as an ensemble. This is especially difficult sometimes
in film because due to schedules and various aspects of shooting, two
or three actors may have a huge scene together but never even see
each other during the course of the shoot!
When you see a movie who's cast impresses you, remember that movie
casting is an art just like any other aspect of filmmaking. Watch
closely as the credits role by. Soon you may be able to tell who was
responsible for casting a movie based on who and what types of actors
are starring in the film. Many casting directors have a reputation
for casting only the best projects, and they leave a distinct mark on
