Earned income credit event hosted Dec. 6

November 22, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

The Herald-Dispatch

HUNTINGTON -- The Financial Stability Partnership of the River Cities, an initiative of United Way of the River Cities, is offering a Earned Income Credit/Child Tax Credit Train the Trainer event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Cabell County Library Downtown Branch.

The event will feature a poverty simulation conducted by Richard Fleisher, West Virginia University extension specialist. The simulation places participants into family groups to negotiate through a compacted month-long time period.

"The simulation will open a lot of people's eyes," Ed Davis, Financial Stability Partnership coordinator, said in a release. "Participants will see how community resource providers influence the fabric of family life in the River Cities. This event will also further the goals and objectives of the Financial Stability Partnership and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program."

This free event is approved for three domestic violence advocate certification CE hours and will also feature guest speakers, breakfast and lunch. The event is open to the public, but registration is required.

To make a reservation, contact Rachel Houston at 304-523-8929, Ext. 112 or rachel.houston@unitedwayrivercities.org.
