Norður: Almost Arctic

Posted by Matt | March 21, 2013

For years the allure of Iceland has laid in the back of my mind. Here is yet another excuse to get out there and have some lonely nature time. Norður: Almost Arctic began as a surf trip to a remote region of the West Fjords of Iceland, but quickly became a way to experience the regions history, landscape and understand how a long held set of values and traditions will adjust to fit into a modern world. An independent film by James Aiken.

Sign Painters Trailer

Posted by Matt | March 20, 2013

There was a time when storefronts, murals, banners, barn signs, billboards, and even street signs were all hand-lettered with brush and paint. But like many skilled trades, the sign industry has been overrun by the techno-fueled promise of quicker and cheaper. The resulting proliferation of computer-designed, die-cut vinyl lettering and inkjet printers has ushered a creeping sameness into our landscape. Fortunately, there is a growing trend to seek out traditional sign painters and a renaissance in the trade. Here is a new documentary that celebrates the sign painter.

Django Django – “WOR”

Posted by Drew | March 18, 2013

This maybe isn’t on level with the Saudi drifting of M.I.A’s “Bad Girls”, but it’s up there — literally. Django Django’s latest video directed by Jim Demuth documents the infamous Indian Well of Death riders in Allahabad who drive motorcycles and cars in circles on a vertical wall for employment…sounds like just another day at the office really. Django is currently out on their first nationwide North American tour and if you haven’t caught them live you’ve got 4 west coast dates left.
