Dr. Ochiai is a graduate of Cornell University, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and is fellowship trained in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. He completed his orthopaedic residency at Albany Medical Center and his fellowship training at the Nirschl Orthopaedic Center and Georgetown University. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and specializes in injuries to the upper and lower extremities including: hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopy. Dr. Ochiai uses both non-surgical and surgical techniques to help his patients return to their active lifestyles.

Dr. Ochiai has extensive experience in the arthroscopic treatment of hip injuries and pathology. This includes treatment of painful hip conditions such as femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAI), labral tears, greater trochanteric bursitis, snapping hips, and gluteus medius and minimus tears. Dr. Ochiai frequently teaches hip arthoscopy courses to U.S. and international surgeons. He has taught surgeons who have specifically traveled to the United States to be trained by Dr. Ochiai from the following countries and US territories: Argentina, Venenzuela, China, Chile, Puerto Rico, Austria, and Poland. He has also published two academic texts for orthopaedic surgeons, and has published extensively in the orthopaedic peer reviewed literature. Dr. Ochiai is the current Immediate Past President of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society, an organization serving the needs of orthopaedic surgeons and their patients across the state of Virginia.

Dr. Ochiai was awarded the Arthroscopy Association on North American (AANA) Traveling Fellowship in Advanced Arthroscopic Techniques. He is an Associate Master Instructor of Hip Arthroscopy and Shoulder Arthroscopy at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Chicago and Associate Director for the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at the Nirschl Orthopaedic Center for Sports Medicine and Joint Reconstruction. He is the Sports Medicine Consultant to Inside Lacrosse Magazine. He is on the medical advisory board of the Washington Ballet. Dr. Ochiai is a member of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy, AANA, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Ochiai is a two time USA Karate National Champion (1999, 2000). He has practiced karate since the age of 2, and remains an active practitioner. His experience as a competitive athlete gives him a unique appreciation of the needs of competitive athletes of all levels. He is also the co-author of a children's self-defense book.

Dr. Ochiai has successfully treated ballet dancers of all levels, and he understands the unique orthopaedic issues of the ballet and dance community.

He holds two U.S. patents for orthopaedic surgical devices. He is currently a consultant for Smith & Nephew Endoscopy
