Alternative Fuel Station Opens in Fullerton
Chris Casacchia Wednesday, May 16, 2012A Bay Area renewable-fuels provider has opened its first wholly owned and operated gas station in Fullerton.
Redwood City-based Propel Fuels is targeting alternative fuel vehicles in and around North County for its first Clean Mobility Center, which offers flex fuels and biodiesel blends, as well as conventional gasoline and diesel.
Until now it has leased space at gas stations and installed a pump or two with renewable fuels, spokesman Jamie Quick said.
The new company-owned fuel station uses sustainable-design practices and is part of a growing network under the California Energy Commission’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology program, which aims to reduce petroleum consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Each Propel location will feature free air stations for tires to increase mileage, an education center that provides information on local public transit and rideshare options, bicycle tuning centers, recycling stations at the pump and eventually natural-gas and electric-vehicle charges.
Propel Fuels employs more than 30 people with operations in 26 locations in California and Washington.
It sees more than $10 million in annual revenue.
