Analytical chemists need to have strong problem solving skills, data acquisition and data handling skills, and a critical eye for judging the quality of data and experimental results.

The POGIL methodology has been shown to be effective for advancing these skills and improving student learning in other chemistry sub-disciplines. POGIL materials are an exemplary vehicle to impart analytical chemistry course content while promoting the effective growth of much needed analytical skills including information processing, analytical reasoning and advanced problem solving.

This group contains the teacher materials for the high school chemistry activities available at www.pogil.org/resources/curriculum-materials/classroom-activities .

For access to the teacher materials, please create an account (www.pogil.org/apply) if you have not already done so.

Next, email pogil@pogil.org requesting access to the teacher materials. In the email, please include the following:

      1) A link to a webpage that indicates that you are a faculty member of an educational institution. If no such link is available, please include the name of your school's principal.

      2) Information about up to 5 courses that you teach. The information should include the subject, course level (general, college prep, honors, AP, IB), and grade level(s).

The Stony Brook University Collection of High School Chemistry Activities was written several years before the HSPI project began, so the activities were not written in the same manner as activities that were subsequently produced by the HSPI Project. Users will notice a difference in style and consistency between the Stony Brook and HSPI activities, but given that the intent of POGIL is to engage students in learning, different formats and styles can be used to accomplish this goal. In addition, the Stony Brook materials were written with a focus on concepts that are included in the New York State Regents Chemistry Core Curriculum. If you should have questions about the Stony Brook University Collection of High School Chemistry activities, send your inquiries to Linda Padwa (Linda.Padwa@stonybrook.edu)
