Family Time at Museum Mile Festival 2010
The 32nd annual Museum Mile Festival takes place rain or shine on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Bring the whole family (and friends) because entrance to all Museum Mile museums is free and Fifth Avenue is closed to traffic, giving plenty of room for dancing in the streets and pushing strollers. Musicians and performers entertain in front of each museum and along the avenue from 82nd to 105th Streets. Food vendors will also be there to keep the energy up.
An opening ceremony takes place at 5:45 pm at El Museo del Barrio (Fifth Avenue between 104th and 105th Streets).
If the kids want to play, there are plenty of art activities, indoors and outdoors: A live model drawing class for children ages 8 to 12 taught by Martha Bloom will take place in the Stone Room of the National Academy Museum and School of Fine Arts. IRubNY will be working with visitors to create urban artwork from rubbings of the buildings and streets surrounding The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Chalk drawing will be offered by Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, The Museum of the City of New York and El Museo del Barrio. El Museo del Barrio will also offer an art-making workshop for families to create their own postcards. Visitors to The Jewish Museum can create their own monkey hats inspired by the Curious George exhibition.
