Slush Pile

Some call it a "slush pile," which sounds like it would require waders and a strong stomach, but in fact, the slush pile is our story pipeline. We have no assistants. Susan and I started Glimmer Train because we wanted to read the great short fiction being written by emerging voices, and to publish the very best in a handsome print publication that would endure. When we dive into reading stories, we are prepared to be moved, surprised, and changed; we are never disappointed. Thank you for letting us read your work.

Glimmer Train has been discovering and publishing emerging writers since 1990.

One of the most respected short-story journals in print, Glimmer Train is represented in recent editions of the Pushcart Prize,
New Stories from the Midwest, O.Henry, New Stories from the South, Best of the West, and Best American Short Stories anthologies.

Every story published in Glimmer Train is unsolicited.
And every year, we pay out over $50,000 to fiction writers.
