As a result of increasing pressures on his free time, Freedom editor Matt Black will be having to step back from the role as of this issue. We thank him for doing some great work over the last seven months and wish him all the best!

A guest editor will be taking over the next issue, and over the next month will be looking to confirm a permanent editor (or working group if enough people are interested) to bring in their ideas and energy for the task of renewing and expanding the oldest anarchist monthly print publication in the world. There have already been many successful benefit events since the firebomb, and there are still plenty more coming up – check them out here.

While we do repairs and renovations downstairs after the firebomb attack, we’ve opened a substitute bookshop upstairs. It’s been designed by ‘Isla’™ and is known as the rainbow bookshop because all the books are sorted by colour. This isn’t as silly as it might sound. Firstly everything will have to be moved downstairs again in a week or two so sorting them out by subject would be a waste of time, and secondly it’s amazing how many people ask for books by colour.

Following Friday’s firebomb attack we’ve had an amazing response from people worldwide.

So much so that we will be able to open the shop on Monday 4th February for business… not quite as usual, but reasonably close.

The bookshop has been firebombed. Fortunately nobody was hurt, but there’s quite a lot of damage from both the fire and the water used to douse the flames.

• New titles flood in

  Thanks loads to everyone who’s donated books in the aftermath of the firebomb attack. We’ve had contributions from AK Press, Five Leaves, Zed Books, Verso and countless individuals. Come and check out the new stock. Meantime we are pleased to announce fire damaged memorabilia will be available from Housmans and 56a Infoshop from next week.

• Freedom subscriptions and mail orders

  Most online orders have now been sent out but there are a few where we haven’t got the titles or t-shirts to hand. The latest issue of Freedom is being posted out this week, and special apologies to international subscribers who won’t have got the last issue as it was incinerated before it could be posted.
