Trained volunteers delivered free reusable grocery bags filled with energy saving information, goodies and coupons. They had conversations with more than 1500 homeowners about the importance of weatherizing and the resources that are available through Efficiency Maine. The goal was to talk to and educate their neighbors about residential energy and money saving strategies they can implement in their homes as they reduce their contributions to global climate change.
Training for the Green Sneakers Project has been provided by BPI (Building Performance Institute) Contractor and Auditor Richard Burbank, president and owner of Evergreen Home Performance. If you would like to learn more about energy efficiency in the home and would like to volunteer, click here for more information and to sign up.
Green Sneakers volunteers have connected interested homeowners to certified energy auditors and contractors and also offer free basic energy walk-thrus to help homeowners identify key problem areas in their homes and steps they can take to address them. A pilot follow-up project to the successful canvass in the midcoast area was launched in January 2011.
