Children's Theatre ProgramDeclaring that they are “born actors” not “born criminals” Budhan Theatre has been working since 1998 to raise awareness about the many injustices suffered by DNTs. The Children’s Theatre Program not only serves to train the next generation of Budhan Theatre actors, but also gives youth from the Chhara community an important sense of purpose and self-confidence. 60 Million Still Treated as “Born Criminals”There are an estimated sixty million Indians who still suffer the stigma of having been branded “born criminals” by the British. Things did not improved for India’s Denotified and Nomadic Tribes (DNTs) after independence. As a result of this tragic history, DNTs lag behind many other groups on a variety of indicators: literacy, nutrition, health care, etc. Vimukta was founded to support DNT communities.Learn more about DNTs… |

Community LibrarySince it’s founding in 200X, Vimukta has been supporting the Budhan Theatre Library in Chharanagar. The Budhan Theatre Library is much more than just a library; its a community center and an informal school as well. But its first and foremost a library – and a very good one at that! It houses a large collection of (mostly donated) books in three languages: English, Hindi, and Gujarati. Each book has been carefully cataloged and given a call number!Learn more… |
