That thought snuck into my head when I received an email from an advocacy group inciting me to

I’d only been in DC for about a year, but try as I might, I couldn’t convince myself that there was any reliable way to get a message to any of my representatives on the Hill.

I didn’t come to DC to start an organization or improve government, but with the ineffectiveness of citizen engagement so blatant, how could I not?

There is no magic bullet, but
there might be some magic buckshot.

We set out to build a magic bullet: communication technology to connect citizens and their government in meaningful ways — empower citizens, simplify governance — you know, solve all the problems in one fell swoop. As it turns out, magic bullets have little to no effect on the 230 years of culture and policies that actually determine how our federal government runs. In addition, there are lots of companies innovating new magic bullets every day.

So we’re taking the magic buckshot approach. We seek out, convene, connect, inform, educate, introduce, and empower the champions within government to do what they do — better. Little by little, we’re supporting and building a community that understands how to create meaningful engagement between citizens and their government: we’re embedding magic buckshot all over the government!

It takes a village – of at least seven or so.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and changing the culture of government is a very large and complex child. We work with lots of great people from non-profits, companies, and governments – and are always looking for more.
