UW Systemwide Policies, Procedures, and Legal Resources

  • Board of Regents Policies - Regent Policy Documents have been adopted pursuant to the policy-making authority vested in the Board by Chapter 36 of the Wisconsin Statutes. The Regent Policies address, but are not limited to:
    • academic policies and programs,
    • equal opportunity,
    • tuition and fees,
    • housing,
    • activities of faculty members,
    • student activities, and
    • trust and investment policies.

  • Academic Information Series (ACIS) - A set of 16 policy papers covering areas such as academic program planning and review, program audits, inter-institutional articulation, international education, and distance education.

  • Academic Planning Statements (ACPS) - A set of 10 documents that contain guidelines to address specific procedural issues in a number of areas, including program audits, academic program planning and review, inter-institutional articulation, international education, and distance education.

  • Budget Preparation Technical Instructions - Instructions, prepared by the Office of Budget and Planning, that provide technical guidance to UW institutions in developing their annual operating budget.

  • Financial and Administrative Policies (FAPs) - Policies pertaining to financial administration, academic administration, information technology, procurement and risk management, tuition and fees, human resources/payroll and staff benefits, ownership of intellectual property, travel, and other administrative policies.

  • Graphic Standards for Consistent Logo Use - Guidelines for use of the University of Wisconsin System logo; includes language for equal opportunity statements.

  • Human Resources Policies - Listing includes two categories: 1) Systemwide policies, which apply to all UW institutions; and 2) System Administration policies, which apply only to UW System Administration employees.

  • Legal Resources provided by the Office of General Counsel - Resources include links to state and federal laws and regulations, as well as written materials that provide summaries of legal requirements and answers to frequently asked questions on topics such as employee ethics, tenure and appointment, academic staff appointments, open meetings laws, and public records management. 

  • Travel Policies and Contracts - All travel paid or reimbursed from university-administered funds must be done in compliance with the university travel policies, regardless of the funding source. Statutory travel policies and regulations include automobile, motorcycle and personal airplane mileage reimbursement rates; porterage tips; moving expense and temporary lodging allowances; and meals and lodging rates. UW System travel regulations are published by the UW System Travel Office.

  • Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Handbook - Sets forth the governance of athletics, including WIAC's constitution, bylaws and administrative regulations.
