It Only Matters if Walker Wins

By Aaron Goldstein on 11.4.14 | 4:21PM

In his Bloomberg column, Ramesh Ponnuru doesn't think much of Scott Walker's presidential prospects even if he is re-elected tonight:

For one thing, Walker's struggle raises the question of whether a politician can make a credible run for the presidency after barely winning over his own state's voters. The last two presidents each won their states convincingly before they ran. George W. Bush won 68 percent of the vote to be re-elected governor of Texas in 1998, and Barack Obama won 70 percent of the vote in Illinois to become a senator in 2004.

Meanwhile, over at Commentary, Seth Mandel doesn't buy Ponnuru's argument:

Eric Holder Has His Eye on You Today, America

By Emily Zanotti on 11.4.14 | 3:34PM

Just in case you were considering suppressing someone's vote today, outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder would like to make sure that you know that he's watching you. Closely. But in the most fair and non-partisan way, of course. So don't try any funny business.

“One of the Justice Department’s most sacred responsibilities is ensuring access to the ballot box for every eligible American,” Attorney General Eric Holder said in a video message on the department’s website.

“I want the American people to know that the Justice Department will stand vigilant — working in a fair and nonpartisan manner to ensure that every voter can cast his or her ballot free of intimidation, discrimination or obstruction,” he said.

RE: Kim Kardashian (Again)

By Emily Zanotti on 11.4.14 | 3:18PM

Okay, so Aaron says that I'm underestimating Kim Kardashian by insisting that she still thinks Obama's on the ballot. That might be true.

Re: Kim Kardashian is Voting for Obama Today

By Aaron Goldstein on 11.4.14 | 12:36PM

I try not to keep up with the Kardashians, but I think Emily might be slightly underestimating Kim Kardashian's intent on Election Day.

Her tweet doesn't actually say she's going to vote for Obama, but rather she says, "I'm standing w Obama in the midterm election 2morrow!"

President Obama famously said that while he wasn't on the ballot, his policies were. In fact, every single one of them. So I think it is reasonable to conclude Kardashian is standing with Obama's policies and is well aware that Obama cannot seek another term in the White House.

But hey give KK some credit here. She's doing what Allison Lundergan Grimes, Michelle Nunn and virtually every other Democrat running for office in this country refuses to do - stand with Obama (even if it is in animated form). Unfortunately for Obama, Kim Kardashian isn't on the ballot.

Kim Kardashian is Voting for Obama Today

By Emily Zanotti on 11.4.14 | 11:53AM

Kim Kardashian is doing her civic duty and encouraging her Twitter and Instagram followers to vote today. She, herself, is apparently planning to vote for Barack Obama. Which will be difficult because Barack Obama himself is not on the ballot.

I suppose we could be generous and acknowledge that, perhaps, Kim is voting to preserve Barack Obama's agenda, which, perhaps unknown to Kim, includes punishing her and her husband Kanye West for their undeserved fame and conspicuous over-consumption, hers earned by starring in a sex tape, and his earned by being a rapper who was pretty good ten years ago but insists on continuing to make records. But that would imply we think Kim has thought long and hard about this and the evidence seems to show that Kim Kardashian has never thought long and hard about anything.
