So, here's where I talk ritual. Weddings, Memorials, Baptisms, Blessings. I've facilitated many functions, customized for your own sense of what is sacred to you. I'll ask you that as a part of our preparations- what matters most to you? A passion of mine is to open the space for rituals which are integrative with your genuine being and your most vivid calling. Under the wing of many wise mentors, I've worked hard to become an empty jug for the Universe, community and Spirit to fill with fantastic dreams, stumbling, as we all do. My faith practice has evolved from a great variety of the world traditions: early Christianity, Sufism, Shamanism, Buddhism, Taoism, and emerging paradigms like Quantum Physics, Radical Ecology, and the Human Potential Movement. I believe the mystical state easily unites us with that Ultimate Form we call many names, and ritual helps us to discover that there is no boundary between us and That, except our own rigidities. I believe that all these means of achieving union, all these modalities of understanding the Infinite are here for a reason we often overlook in our debates and limiting diatribes; to help us become a living, loving realization of being at one, all one, in the Big Wide Universe. This, of course, is tempered by what used to be called human nature, or our some kind of instinctual drive to dominate and divide. I believe in a deeper instinct and a more beautiful and challenging blossoming of natures. Heck, it just makes living in the world a tad more useful and empowering.

Personal.

I'm grateful to have served for 14+ years in the human services field, with a focus on building wellness in families, strength in children, crisis management, and substance abuse psychoeducation. My overall approach is that we constantly and unknowingly reenact cyclical behavioral patterns, requiring an immediate break to the cycle in order to enact deep change. What is so often overlooked in the drive to "correct" these behaviors is that it really does take two (sometimes more) to tango, so we've got to broaden supports and amplify already present but frequently obscured skillsets. Sometimes we just need to re-learn the dance. I offer private personal supportive counseling by special arrangement. I'm registered with the NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board- more about national certifications below.

 

Educational

I teach parenting skills from a variety of perspectives, and am certified in a number of established curricula. My most requested course is MAPP-GPS (Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting, Group Preparation and Selection), which is the 30 prerequisite class for prospective foster and pre-adoptive parents. I also teach a number of classes geared toward identifying and transforming behaviors which create vicious and perspective warping cycles in the home. Additionally, I am a SASSI Certified Substance Abuse Assessment Examiner, an amazingly objective tool designed to tease out subtle traits in addictive pathologies as well as solid, evidence-based diagnoses with subsequent treatment recommendations.
