How does the treatment work?
The laser is emitted using precisely controlled pulses of light energy onto the treatment area. The laser is then absorbed by the melanin or pigment in the hair and passes into the hair follicles beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, safely destroying the cells that produce it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.
Am I suitable for Laser hair removal?
Laser targets colour pigments in the hair. For the treatment to be fully effective there must be some natural colour in your hair. The laser will not work on white, grey or red hair. As a matter of caution we do not carry out laser hair removal on pregnant or women who are breast feeding.
Is this treatment painful?
We use the latest generation laser system which has an in-built cooling device or an intense air cooling device which creates a much more comfortable treatment for our patients. With our advance machines there is no need for messy aesthetic gel that many of our competitors use. The sensation is like a very quick sting, both hot and cold at the same time. Patients will experience the sensation during the consultation patch test.
Is this treatment safe?
The Perfectme clinic is registered with the Care Quality Commission, a governing body responsible for monitoring health care services in the UK. The use of lasers have also been approved by the Food and Drug Administration in America. Lasers have been used in the medical profession for a number of years and no long-term side effects have been reported.
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment time will depend on the size of the area being treated. During the consultation a more accurate time for the treatment will be given. Our advanced lasers have variable spot sizes including some of the largest in the industry, combined with a fast pulse rate an area can be treated quickly and effectively. For example, a bikini and underarm together takes about 30 minutes.
How many sessions will I require?
Treatment usually consists of a course of six to eight treatments over several months. This can differ according to the treatment area, hair thickness and individual’s hair growth cycle. During your laser hair removal consultation a full assessment of your skin and hair will help determine a more accurate estimation of the number treatments required.
Can I remove the hair between treatments?
Hair can be removed by shaving, trimming or using hair removal cream. Waxing and plucking are not recommended methods of hair removal between laser treatments as this disturbs the hair root, and therefore does not allow the laser treatment to work effectively.
What should I avoid before and during my treatment course?
It is important to keep the skin as natural as possible, avoiding sun exposure, sun beds or self-tanning products. Treatment cannot be carried out on hair that has been coloured or that has been removed from the root using tweezers or waxing. It is important to follow the advice you receive at your initial consultation throughout the course of your treatments.
What do the consultation and test patch involve?
During your laser hair removal consultation a trained nurse or skin aesthetician will examine your skin and hair type to determine your suitability to the treatment. A test patch is used to identify the best treatment settings for you.
