With first- and second-place finishes in eight of nine events, the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Flying Salukis put in a dominating team performance to win the National Intercollegiate Flying Association Region VIII title Saturday, Nov. 1.
The inaugural SIU Guitar Festival brings two days of world guitar music to Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8.

The submission deadline for the 2014 research symposium hosted by College of Applied Sciences and Arts is Oct. 22. Symposium topics include but are not limited to architecture, allied health, information systems and applied technologies and transportation. The symposium is also open to faculty and students from other universities. Work submitted for publication must be original and not previously published or under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Under the direction of Chad Schwartz, assistant architecture professor, students from “Architecture 351 Design III: Context” created imaginative structures to place throughout the library to engage library patrons through various senses and themes. Visitors can come to understand the creations through sight, sound, smell and touch.
They followed different career paths -- one to aviation and the other education -- but sisters LuAnn Gatewood and Gina Gatewood Trover shared a love of teaching. A ceremony honoring their commitment and memory will take place Thursday, Aug. 28, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Transportation Education Center with the dedication of the LuAnn Gatewood and Gina Gatewood Trover Weather Dispatch Center. The ceremony is set for 11 a.m.
