OPB's Earthfix reporter Cassandra Profita sat down with Alan Yeakley, director of the School of the Environment to take about exactly why cities are such a problem for salmon and steelhead in the Northwest, and what urban-dwellers can do about it.

Dr. Yeakley is co-author of Wild Salmonids in the Urbanizing Pacific Northwest. The book sets out to answer a key question: Can wild salmon populations coexist with humans in urban areas?

Check out the interview here.

In Memoriam

It is our great sadness to share the news that Thomas Harvey passed away December 13, 2013 after a short illness. As a Geography faculty member for the last 23 years, Professor Harvey contributed to our community in many ways, advising undergraduate and graduate students and actively participating in local community organizations. He was also well-known as a photographer of landscape.
