Roll out the red carpet. Ramin Bahrani, award-winning director of films such as “Man Push Cart” and “Chop Shop,” will film his next movie in DeKalb County.

The film, currently untitled, is about a fourth-generation farming family, said Patricia Koffler, a producer with Killer Films. The patriarch of the family, played by Dennis Quaid, is driven to grow his business, while his son, played by Zac Efron, has ambitions outside of farming. This conflict is the basis of the film’s story, Koffler said.

Koffler said DeKalb County was chosen because “it’s just beautiful … the setting is exactly right for this film.”

The film is already in production, said Debbie Armstrong, executive director of the DeKalb County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, although she would not confirm where filming will take place.

“At this point we need to respect their process,” Armstrong said, noting that at this point in production the filmmakers are not equipped to worry about crowd control.

Koffler said filming should begin sometime this summer, and that small independent films usually hit theaters “about a year” after they’re done filming.

Armstrong said the bureau has been working with the filmmakers since February, during which time they were shown around the area and put in touch with local contacts.

“We’re thrilled to have them,” Armstrong said. “We’re excited for what it will do for the county.”

Armstrong said she hopes to release more details about the film soon. More information about Bahrani, who was dubbed “director of the decade” by film critic Roger Ebert, can be found at www.noruzfilms.com.

Representatives from Black Bear Pictures, listed as a production company attached to the film, could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Hey guys! Zac has been cast in another film, ‘The Paperboy’. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the film, based on the 1995 Pete Dexter novel of the same name, will star Matthew McConaughey, Sofia Vergara, Zac Efron and Tobey Maguire.

Lee Daniels is set to direct the sexual thriller, which follows a Miami Times reporter as he returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the imprisonment of a death row inmate. Pedro Almodovar developed a feature project with Dexter for more than a decade before Daniels became involved early this year.

Hilary Shor is producing with Daniels. Avi Lerner, Trevor Short and Danny Dimbort are executive producers.

“This is a good film for us,” said Lerner, “a project that has Pedro Almodovar attached, is set in the steamy South, directed by Lee Daniels, Hilary Shor producing, and with the incredible cast of Matthew, Tobey, Sofia and Zac. (Hollywood Reporter)

Zac Efron doesn’t have a hard time making the ladies swoon, but it seems that one of his upcoming projects will certify his status as a box office babe: “Die in a Gunfight,” an action flick that shares common themes with Shakespeare’s classic “Romeo and Juliet.”

Last week, we spoke with “Gunfight” director Anthony Mandler, who very recently signed on to helm the project. He gave us the scoop on working with the former “High School Musical” sensation on this latest film and helping him bridge the difficult road from kid star to adult actor.

“I just signed on to a movie ‘Die in a Gunfight’ that Zac Efron’s starring in,” Mandler told MTV News. “It’s a ‘Fight Club,’ ‘Romeo and Juliet’–esque, dystopian, another world [type of story] that’s really exciting.”

The film certainly doesn’t sound anything like “High School Musical,” to say the least, and in Mandler’s opinion, this could well be the movie that changes the way people view Efron as an actor.

“It’s an absolute departure and opportunity for him to show this transition from teenage star to man,” he said. “And I think it’s the movie that we’ve all been waiting for him to do, and like ‘Romeo and Juliet’ was [Leonardo] DiCaprio or like ‘Cry Baby’ was for Johnny Depp. There’s a real opportunity for this movie to show a different side of Zac Efron. It’s an incredibly well written script… very exciting.”

As for his current progress on the film, Mandler said: “We’re doing rewrites on [it] and probably prepping for the fall.”

Ashley Tisdale worked some of her Disney magic to bring together exes Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens at a party Wednesday night.

No, the “High School Musical” sweethearts are not back together as a couple, but they are attending the same events.

Efron and Hudgens joined their “HSM” co-star at Soho House in West Hollywood for the launch of her straight-to-DVD Disney movie “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure,” E! reported.

“The former couple appeared to be having a good time separately, but we’re not holding our breath for a reconciliation,” the blog said.

The two posed separately for photos with Tisdale, currently starring in the CW’s “Hellcats,” but also stayed away from each other on the red carpet, according to Access Hollywood. They began dating in 2005 on the “HSM” set, but split in December.

No surprise there. Efron, 23, is playing the field and has been busy filming Garry Marshall’s “New Year’s Eve.” And Hudgens, 22, has been spotted with her “Journey 2: Mysterious Island” co-star Josh Hutcherson (recently cast in “The Hunger Games”) on motorcycle rides. She’s also been promoting her latest films, “Sucker Punch” and “Beastly.”

We wonder, though, about any awkward moments they might have had at all those Lakers games they’ve been attending.
