Analysis, Opinion, and More at WNYC’s Political Site, www.ItsAFreeCountry.org

(NEW YORK, NY – March 26, 2012) – WNYC Radio, the nation’s most listened-to public radio station, will make the audio releases of the Supreme Court’s Affordable Care Act hearings available to listeners on-air and online.

Given the strong public interest in the case, the Supreme Court announced earlier this month that it would make audio recordings from the hearings – which will take place today, Monday March 26, through Wednesday, March 28 – available on a same-day basis to the public.

WNYC.org and WNYC’s political site, www.ItsAFreeCountry.org, will post the audio each day as soon as it is available (approximately 2pm ET).  In addition, WNYC will pre-empt regular programming on AM 820 beginning at 9pm ET each night to broadcast the day’s hearings in their entirety, following a news special from NPR at 8pm ET.

New Jersey Public Radio (Trenton 88.1 FM, Sussex 88.5 FM, Netcong 89.3 FM and Toms River 90.3 FM) will also air the hearings at 9pm ET.

WNYC will provide Court hearing news and analysis throughout the day on programs including The Takeaway, the morning drive news program WNYC produces with PRI, the BBC World Service, The New York Times, and WGBH, as well as The Brian Lehrer Show, the Peabody Award-winning news and public affairs call-in show.

On Tuesday, March 27 at 2pm, ItsAFreeCountry.org will host a live web chat, led by WNYC host Brian Lehrer and special guests to enable listeners to engage about the issues and with each other.  The site will also offer a day-to-day guide to the daily arguments, videos and commentary by the site’s bloggers, who hail from all across the political spectrum.
