(Nov. 15, 2012) A powerful nor’easter blasted Nantucket last week with wind gusts in excess of 80 mph, wreaking havoc along the waterfront and isolating the island for nearly two days as ferry and plane service was shut down.
While Hurricane Sandy struck Nantucket with a glancing blow one week earlier, the nor’easter that plowed through the region last Wednesday and Thursday caused far more damage and headaches for island residents.
The historic barn at the Old Sconset Golf Course, which had stood sentinel over the eastern moors for more than a century, was destroyed during the storm and blown to pieces by its punishing winds.
