Metro to run expanded service on Gold Line for Masquerade Motel

Posted by Anna Chen

Going to Swedish House Mafia’s Masquerade Motel? The music festival will take place March 8 and 9 at the L.A. State Historic Park, which is conveniently served by the Metro Gold Line Chinatown Station. The park is also just a short walk from Union Station.

Your Masquerade Motel ticket or printed ticket receipt gets you a free ride to and from the festival on Metro Bus and Rail. Take advantage of this deal to avoid the congestion and serious lack of parking in Chinatown. This is especially true for those attending on Friday, who will have to deal with the usual Friday evening rush hour traffic of those leaving DTLA offices.

Metro will be running expanded service on the Gold Line during the festival to accommodate crowds. And with Metro Rail open late on Friday and Saturday nights, getting home after the show should be no problem.

Here’s Live Nation’s monster news release on how to get there:

Their website states that the Blue and Expo run into Union Station. They make no mention of the Purple. The graphic does not show the eastide Silver Line or Orange Line to Chatsworth.

This is what was said of Hard Haunted but we had to pay for our fare there because no one knew about the free service w/ our Hard Haunted tickets when we asked at the station. I hope there is better knowledge about this among the staff this time! Will the Purple Line be extended as well? Since that is the line my friends and I need to take home after we get off at Union from the Gold.

      Hi Vyvy,

The Purple Line will be running until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Here’s the schedule. Hope that helps, and have fun!

Can I take Expo from Culver to the concert on Friday? Do I need to change metros??

    • spacer Anna Chen on said:

      Hi P,

If you’re taking Expo, you’ll need to transfer to the Red or Purple Line at 7th/Metro Station and head to Union Station. From there, hop on the Northbound Gold Line to Chinatown Station, or you could walk over to the park from Union Station – it’s about a 10-15 minute walk. Rides to and from the concert are free with proof of ticket purchase.

      Thanks,

That would be the ‘Northbound’ or ‘To Pasadena’ direction on the Gold Line, *not* toward the ‘Eastside Extension’ or ‘To East LA’.

You’re right! Thanks for catching that.

Does this include the metrolink lines coming out of the inland empire?

    • spacer Anna Chen on said:

      Hi Art,

Metrolink is not running enhanced service for this event, just the normal scheduled service.

      Thanks,

I’m a bit worried about the return trip. “with Metro Rail open late on Friday and Saturday nights, getting home after the show should be no problem” doesn’t sound too assuring. I plan on Driving to Sierra Madre Villa in Pasadena to park my car there and take the Gold Line in. Will there be plenty of trains coming back after 2 when the concert is over?

    • spacer Anna Chen on said:

      Hi Matt,

Swedish House Mafia is schedule to take the stage around 10 p.m. and the show is expected to end around midnight. The last Gold Line train from Chinatown Station to SMV Station leaves at 2:14 a.m.

      Hi Maya,

As of now only the Metro Gold Line will be running enhanced service to accommodate concert attendees. The last Gold Line train to Union Station is around 2 a.m. Please plan your schedule accordingly.

Can you tell me when the last red line and expo line trains will be running? I’m trying to get back to Culver City. Also, is only the gold line free or will all transfers for me to get from Culver City and back be free?

    • spacer Anna Chen on said:

      Hi Eric,

Here’s the schedule for the Expo Line: www.metro.net/riding_metro/bus_overview/images/806.pdf
      And the Red Line: www.metro.net/riding_metro/bus_overview/images/802.pdf

Late night times are in the boxed area. As long as you have proof of concert ticket purchase, you can ride all Metro Bus and Rail lines for free to get to and from the show.

I’m trying to get to and from Fullerton, Ca to the concert. What are all the lines that have an extended time until 2am?

    • spacer Anna Chen on said:

      Hi Tatiana,

All Metro Rail lines run until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. To get to Fullerton though, you’ll need to check Metrolink or Amtrak’s Surfliner: www.amtrak.com/ccurl/951/903/Pacific-Surfliner-Schedule-011413.pdf

Not sure if they run trains until 2 a.m. Other options are to drive to a Metro Rail station and park and ride Metro (free with proof of concert ticket purchase) or hang out at the 24 hr Denny’s by Union Station until the first train runs.
