About SSH

OUR SOCIETY

SSH is comprised of 3,000 members from over 40 countries. Our membership dues include special rates for students and retired professionals. SSH membership is united in its goal to promote the use of simulation in healthcare. The diversity of membership makes SSH unique. We are a multi-disciplinary society, with members from a range of medical specialties. Our members utilize all simulation modalities. Our annual conference, The International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare, allows our members to come together, learn, share and network across disciplines and simulation modalities. When you join SSH, you join the largest group of healthcare simulationists in the world.

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) seeks to improve performance and reduce errors in patient care through the use of simulation.  Established in 2004 by professionals using simulation for education, testing, and research in health care. SSH fosters the improvement and application of simulation–based modalities such as human patient simulators, virtual reality, standardized patients and task trainers.

Recognizing that simulation represents a paradigm shift in health care education, SSH promotes improvements in simulation technology, educational methods, practitioner assessment, and patient safety that promote better patient care and can improve patient outcome.

A major venue for advancing simulation in medicine is the annual International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (formerly IMMS) that has been held successfully since 1995. SSH, beginning in 2006, has wholly sponsored this meeting.
