The Pigs
From February to August 2008, we had two barrows; they were Yorkshires and we bought them from a local pig farmer when they were tiny little things (about 20 pounds). They grew in leaps and bounds and at the end of August they went to be processed (to “freezer camp”, if you will).
A week later we bought two female pigs – about 6 weeks old – from a vendor at Dog Days Flea Market in Ardmore, Tennessee. We expect they’ll be ready for processing sometime in January 2009.
The pigs are fed high-quality pig chow, as well as leftovers from our table and every night they’re given a “snack” of some kind (most recently, Piggerdoodles). They have a very nice shelter to sleep in and a wallow that we keep full of mud so they can keep cool during the hot days of summer.
We believe in treating our animals very well.
