When The Lights Go Out in Georgia

January 21, 2013

spacer Whether you know it or not, the gutting of America has already started. It has already taken place in the manufacturing industries by exporting manufacturing to offshore plants. It has already taken place from job losses in the jobs market within nearly every industry in America.

Now it is happening within our energy industry. The federal government has been throwing money out the window to alternative energy companies. These companies have received huge bank roles regardless of whether the companies are viable or not. All the while our existing coal and fossil fuel companies have to struggle to survive.

Here in Georgia, the Georgia Power Company is closing 15 power plants. They are doing spacer this not because the plants can produce power efficiently or not. They are closing because of the new restrictive EPA regulations which make it impossible to run the plants without costly improvements. The improvements would make the plants cost more to run than they are worth.

The plants are all running on coal, oil or natural gas. There is no plan to upgrade or convert any of the plants. That means that the power available to Georgia will be reduced by the amount of output of these plants. This will reduce the company’s power output by 2,061,000,000 watts.

This also reduces the fail safe power capabilities of the power company. That means that if one of the remaining plants goes down, there will be 15 less power plants available to make up for the loss in power. There is one thing most people don’t understand about our power grid and that is that if one part of the grid goes down, then another part will try to make up for the loss. However, if the other part of the grid can’t supply enough power to fill the gap, then it will go down. That is how black outs are created.

If Georgia, for whatever reason happens to have a dire need for more power then it can’t depend on these plants to meet that need and it will have to suck power from the grid from the other states within its grid. Georgia is part of the southeast grid SERC which consists of 11 states and parts of several others. But it goes even further because the inter connectivity for the SERC grid extends from Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Delaware to North Dakota to Oklahoma/Louisiana to Florida. That means all these states are tapped to each other. There are safe guards in place to keep one grid from pulling down another, but they don’t always work.

Are you aware of the fact that this isn’t happening just in Georgia? This is happening all across America. There are plans all across America, to shut down coal power plants and the estimated power loss is 40,000,000,000 watts for just the coal powered plants alone. I can only imagine how much the loss will increase from shutting down the oil and natural gas plants all across America as well. Since Georgia is being forced to shut down many of its oil and natural gas plants along with coal plants, you can bet the rest of the country is considering doing the same.

This will severely reduce our power capabilities and that puts America in a very vulnerable state. Not only does it put an additional daily strain on the remaining plants and the existing infrastructure, it also puts a huge strain on the system in times of national disasters.

This country is in one of the most dangerous times it has ever been in. The Revolutionary War is the only other time it has been in a situation even close to its the present day peril. The Civil War was similar but not really because the country could have survived as two separate “free” countries without firing a single shot, but the powers of the day decided otherwise. Yes, only one would have been a truly free country and the other would have been a free country for everyone, but slaves. The concept that founded this country could have been left intact and the country could have survived along with the Constitution. The Revolutionary War was different because if it had failed the country would never have had a chance to exist in the first place.

spacer Today we have a situation where the entire concept of America is being threatened and there is a possibility it will not survive. Economically we are balancing on a very thin wire where if we lean left we fall into a communism/socialist government, and if we lean right we will fall into a suffering which could be one of the worst this country has ever seen, and that is to just regain a shadow of what this country once was. Either way it will weaken America and make it vulnerable to its enemies.

Weakening our energy system only adds to the vulnerability and invites attacks from insiders as well as outsiders. America is being weakened in every possible venue. It is being weakened by divisionists working against the populous. It is being weakened in its productivity by the loss of production to offshore production. It is being weakened in its worker base by unbelievable unemployment. It is being weakened economically by corrupt economic actions both at the corporate and government level. It is being weakened militarily by reductions in assets and valuable personnel. It is being weakened in the security of its citizens’ rights by the federal government taking a away more and more of our rights every day.  Everything that America has stood for since its conception has been weakened and is being weakened as we speak.

However, there is one thing that has strengthened and that is the imperial power of the federal government. It is growing at an alarming rate. The federal government is consuming all the power within our borders. The dismantling of our energy system is a small part of the problem, but it is a part of it and as such it should be addressed just like all the other threats.

We all need to do whatever we can to stop the demise of our energy system, our financial system, the separation of powers, our Constitutional rights, and the total dismantling of this country. We need to speak out whenever and wherever we see an assault on any part of this country. If we don’t, then it won’t be long before we will no longer be able to speak out about anything.
