Not everyone is able to be physically present at the ScienceOnline2013 conference in Raleigh, NC (Jan 30-Feb 2, 2013), but that doesn’t mean you can’t participate! We value conversation and want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to join in.

We want to encourage local groups to organize Watch Parties where 25, 50 or more people meet together and watch ScienceOnline2013 sessions that we video-capture. The Watch Parties will be able to access the sessions via a special video-on-demand that we will have set up. The idea is for you to watch a session together and then talk about the topic amongst yourselves…just as the attendees at the conference will have done during the session.

After your Watch Party we will ask you to send us a summary of what YOU talked about, so we can include that in the conference materials that are generated from the event. We are putting together an ePub with insights and shared resources that come from each session. Every Watch Party attendee will receive access to the ePub.

The fee for a Watch Party is $100 per venue (this will help cover some of the production and streaming costs). We encourage you to find a sponsor for this amount or use a ticket service like EventBrite to cover the cost.

DEADLINE TO REGISTER A WATCH PARTY IS JANUARY 20, 2013!
Each local Watch Party can choose the day, length of event, number of sessions viewed, refreshments, etc. By having the video accessible via a special login, you can choose a time that fits the needs (and time zone!) of your attendees. We will work with each organizer/group to help make their Watch Party a success.

We plan to capture the following sessions (for full descriptions, view our online schedule here):

If there is not a Watch Party in your area, you can still watch some of the ScienceOnline2013 conference. We will have a few unrestricted, public videos available. We will be broadcasting (and then archiving) the CONVERGE sessions for everyone to enjoy. The video broadcast will be found at scienceonline.com/live during the conference.
