The IBDS (International Bande Dessinée Society ) is a forum for scholarly exchange on all aspects of the bande dessinée, or French-language comic strip. We welcome all critical approaches, be they historical, sociological, political, literary, linguistic or other.
The society produces a twice-yearly journal, European Comic Art, and IBDS conferences have taken place in Leicester, Manchester, London and Glasgow.
Acclaimed bande dessinée author and illustrator Jacques Tardi will perform (with Dominique Grange) his work Putain de Guerre in London this November. Combining songs, readings and images the show is a poignant evocation of the First World War. More info is available at bit.ly/
Our next conference, again in partnership with International Graphic Novels and Comics, will take place from Monday 22nd- Saturday 27th June 2015 in Paris. Check out the CFP here
The new issue of European Comic Art ( volume 7, number 1) is now available from Berghahn Journals. For the full Table of Contents, please see Volume Seven’s page.
French artist Tanitoc attended the conference and “live-sketched” many sessions. He was kind enough to send us all his images, shown on this page (Click on images to view full size). All images (c) Tanitoc 2013.
