Julie Gess-Newsome, Ph.D., is Associate Dean of Human Health and Wellness at Oregon State University-Cascades in Bend, Oregon. She previously served as Dean of the Graduate School of Education with Willamette University and as Director of the Center for Science Teaching and Learning with Northern Arizona University.
Gess-Newsome has authored or co-authored several books about teaching science, including “Reforming Secondary Science Instruction,” which won a 2010 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers. She is a past-president of the Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE), former editor of the Science Teacher Education section of Science Education, and a past board member for the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST).
Dr. Gess-Newsome joined the BSCS Board of Directors in 2010.
