Easily Identify and Purchase Greener Electronics

EPEAT helps purchasers of all sizes reduce the overall environmental impact of their electronics purchases. The system was designed with purchaser involvement and supports the ”green” procurement efforts of businesses, institutions and consumers alike. Using the free EPEAT system, purchasers in more than 40 countries have access to easy-to-use search tools, intuitive product comparison features, plug-and-play model purchasing language and more. Buying energy efficient EPEAT products can help reduce energy costs, and recycling-related requirements can ease end of life disposition. In addition, EPEAT can help qualify your organization for recognition by other environmental ratings and certification programs.

There are literally thousands of EPEAT Purchasers around the world driving environmental improvement in electronics design and delivery by specifying EPEAT as a purchasing requirement. If you would like to join the EPEAT Purchasing program and be recognized here and in other marketing initiatives, please contact us.

Purchaser Types

Governments

The U.S. federal government, seven other national governments and hundreds of regional and local procurement agencies around the world use EPEAT to compare electronics and make informed purchasing decisions. EPEAT’s searchable database makes it easy for IT and procurement staff to develop purchasing specifications consistent with environmental policy. • National Governments
  • State and Local Governments

By specifying EPEAT, government agencies can choose from thousands of products from more than 50 manufacturers that help meet their sustainability and budgetary goals while reducing the negative impacts of their electronics purchases. EPEAT purchasing is also recognized by the (U.S.) State Electronics Challenge and can be used for credits in the LEED Existing Building system.

EPEAT is open to manufacturers of all sizes and nationalities, so establishing an EPEAT specification need not disadvantage local suppliers. The tiered rating system provides incentive for ongoing environmental performance improvement while allowing for ease of entry. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency supported development of EPEAT and has recommended purchasers’ use of the system for many years. Since 2007, U.S. Federal agency purchasers have been directed to meet an annual commitment of 95% or higher EPEAT purchasing in all covered product categories, first by Presidential Executive Order and then by regulatory requirement.
