CHICAGO CUBS: Wrigley Field

When it comes to picking the most historic and storied ballpark in Major League Baseball, the choice basically comes down to either Fenway Park in Boston or “The Friendly Confines” of Wrigley Field in Chicago. And while Fenway supporters can boast about their park being a couple of years older, an argument could be made that Wrigley has done a better job of staying true to its nearly 100-year history. After all, it took more than 70 years from opening day in 1914 to an August evening in 1988 before the first game was played under the lights. It’s hard to match the experience of having Chicago Cubs tickets, and GoTickets.com is ready to get them for you. Even when big time concerts come to town, like Roger Waters at Wrigley Field, you can always get great seats here.

It’s now been a full century since the last time the Cubs won the World Series in 1908 (before Wrigley Field was even built), but it’s hard to say that the Cubbies are really “loveable losers” anymore. Sure, they are still loved by millions of fans around the country, but they have become one of the best teams in the big leagues in recent years and this might finally be their year. Even when the team was absolutely dreadful, Cubs baseball tickets were hard to find, so you can imagine what it will be like if the Cubs make it to the playoffs this season.

As if Wrigley Field needed another historic event to add to its legend, the National Hockey League hosted the ‘09 NHL Winter Classic, which featured the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings playing some outdoor hockey.

Thrill of victory: October 1, 1932: More than 70 years after the fact, baseball historians still debate whether Babe Ruth actually called his shot in the World Series against the Cubs. Some claim he was pointing at the Cubs bench or that he didn’t point at all, but the most popular legend is that The Bambino raised his arm and pointed to center field before he launched the ball into the bleachers. Even if that didn’t happen, and even though it resulted in a loss for the Cubbies in that game and in the World Series, it was still a thrilling moment in sports history.

Agony of defeat: October 14, 2003: Two words – Steve Bartman. Although most Cubs fans have forgiven Bartman for that infamous night when he reached over and interfered with Moises Alou’s attempt to catch a foal ball, the incident will never be forgotten. Of course it’s hard to just blame Bartman, because he’s not the one who threw a wild pitch after that or booted a routine grounder to help the Marlins complete their comeback and beat the Cubs in the National League Championship Series. Even so, it still makes fans wonder if they would have had the chance to buy World Series tickets if not for Bartman.

Cubs Ticket Tips: The Cubs sell out just about every game, especially against the St. Louis Cardinals and during interleague play when a team like the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox comes to the Windy City. But that doesn’t mean that bargains can’t be had – try checking out the prices for weekday games because those are often cheaper than weekend games. And although Ernie Banks, who famously said “Let’s Play Two!”, must be disappointed about the lack of doubleheaders in baseball, they still do happen on occasion, especially as a make-up for a rained out game, and they offer great value for your money. So check out the selection of Cubs tickets on GoTickets.com and get ready for a historic trip to Wrigley Field.
