5th ACM Conference on Recommender Systems

Chicago, IL, USA 23rd-27th October 2011

The 5th ACM International Conference on Recommender Systems has been built on the success of the “Recommenders 06 Summer School” in Bilbao, Spain and the series of four successful conference events from 2007 to 2010 in Minneapolis (2007), Lausanne (2008), New York (2009) and Barcelona (2010).

In these events many members of the practitioner and research communities valued the rich exchange of ideas made possible by the shared plenary sessions. The 5th International conference promoted the same close interaction among practitioners and researchers. Published papers went through a full peer review process. The conference proceedings, which are available both as bound volume and via the ACM Digital Library, are widely read and cited.

In addition to a regular technical program, there were several tutorials covering the state-of-the-art of this domain, different workshops, a doctoral consortium, and an industrial program comprising of panel discussions and a practice/industry-paper track. We also had keynote speakers who addressed the major applications of recommendation technologies in industry.

ACM RecSys 2011 had 169 submissions from 42 different countries that were sent out for review.  As was the case in the last few years, there were two paper submission categories: long papers (that should report on substantial contributions of lasting value) and short papers (that typically discuss exciting new work that is not yet mature enough for a long paper).  Out of 110 long paper submissions, 22 were accepted (20.0%) for oral presentation at the conference.  In addition, to accommodate the growing number of quality long paper submissions over the years, 8 additional long papers were accepted for poster presentation (resulting in the final acceptance rate of 27.3% for long paper submissions).  Out of 59 short paper submissions, 24 were accepted (40.7%) for poster presentation at the conference.
