Pencil This In: Dave Grohl Takes Over Hollywood Boulevard, 'Community' at PaleyFest and Bryce Dallas Howard Talks Film

It's a great night of events tonight in LA, despite the traffic headaches around Hollywood Boulevard—which has been shut down for Dave Grohl and the Sound City Players. Also happening is a film screening and lecture with Bryce Dallas Howard, a Jerry Lewis double feature and 'Community' at PaleyFest. Read on for all the details.

MUSIC*
They’ve shut down Hollywood Boulevard for this one: ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live and Sonos present a concert with Dave Grohl and the Sound City Players featuring Rick Springfield, John Fogerty, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick. and Lee Ving of Fear. The super group is backed by the full Foo Fighters lineup, Krist Novoselic of Nirvana and Alain Johannes. More than 10,000 people are expected (during rush hour nonetheless!). Grohl celebrates the release of his film Sound City, after he bought a legendary recording console from historic Sound City Studios last year. Free, but tickets required. The boulevard and the pit opens to ticketholders at 5 and 5:45 respectively.

ART
The G2 Gallery in Venice—dedicated to art and the environment—celebrates its fifth year anniversary with the exhibition Future Perfect, which opens today and runs through April 21. The show is an anniversary retrospective exhibition that includes photos from artists throughout the gallery’s history. The images have been donated by the artists for a silent auction with proceeds donated to a corresponding environmental cause. The opening reception will be held on March 9 from 6:30-9 pm.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Photographer Jim McHugh has photographed everyone from Clint Eastwood to Tina Turner and Jay-Z. He’s guest speaking at the Apple Store in Santa Monica tonight at 7 pm to share stories and photos from his 30+ year career. Free.

FILM TALK
In her latest role, Bryce Howard (The Help, 50/50, Hereafter and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) has stepped behind the camera to direct the short film when you find me, executive produced by her father Ron Howard. She’s at USC’s Mark Taper Hall of Humanities, Room 201, tonight to screen her film, talk about the filmmaking industry and inform attendees how they can get involved with Canon’s Project Imaginat10n Film Festival. Since the event’s sponsored by Canon, there’s also an EOS Rebel T4i camera giveaway. 7:30 pm.

TV
Tonight the PaleyFest celebrates Community and welcomes both executive producers and cast to the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. Scheduled to appear: Joel McHale (Jeff Winger), Gillian Jacobs (Britta Perry), Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley Bennett), Danny Pudi (Abed Nadir), Alison Brie (Annie Edison), Jim Rash (Dean Pelton) and executive producers Russ Krasnoff, David Guarascio, Moses Port and Tristram Shapeero. 7 pm. Tickets: $20-$75.

FILM
Cinefamily and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences present Jerry Lewis: The Total Filmmaker with a double feature of The Nutty Professor and Bonjour Mr. Lewis, Part 1 tonight at 7:30 pm. The evening opens with the introductory hour-long episode of Bonjour Mr. Lewis, a 1982 French documentary series, followed by The Nutty Professor, which Lewis starred in and directed. Reception to follow. Tickets: $12/free for members.
