The project “Memorie Urbane” was conceived in the need of “rediscovering” the city; art has become a tool to give new emphasis to areas that by now are part of a well-established visual horizon and, for that reason, are usually neglected.
The aim of the festival was to culturally animate the city of Gaeta, by renewing interest in the city and also directing the citizen’s attention towards the preservation and valorization of heritage itself.
“Memorie Urbane” hosted four artists: Agostino Iacurci, Escif, Sten & Lex and Teresa Orazio.
Each of these artists has made two works: a temporary work on a billboard of 3 mt x 6 mt and a permanent one on the walls of Gaeta.
The purpose of the billboard was to highlight the “addiction” to the visual spurs that advertising logic imposes while converting these inputs into a creative process.
The works on the walls, permanently given to the city, established them as examples of creative actions on existing architectures.
Those works are now part of what Walls is trying to set up: an open-air museum of urban contemporary art.

Riscoprire la città, dare nuovo risalto a spazi che, facendo ormai parte di un orizzonte visivo acquisito, sono solitamente trascurati: le magnificenze della street art come catalizzatori per rivelare i fasti del passato.

Escif, Agostino Iacurci, Sten & Lex, Teresa Orazio: quattro artisti, quattro muri, quattro billboard.

Opere permanenti, quelle sui muri, azioni creative e riqualificanti su architetture preesistenti, consegnate alla città per accrescere il suo fascino e la sua ricca storia artistica colorandola di contemporaneo, per incentivare il turismo nel segno della creatività.
Temporanee, le opere sui supporti destinati ai cartelloni pubblicitari sono state pillole di cultura per porre l’accento sull’assuefazione agli stimoli visivi commerciali commutandoli invece in input creativi.
