The Popdust Files: interviews, twitter, waka flocka flame

Celebrity Twitter feeds can often be disregarded as superfluous, non-serious commentary from your favorite stars. So when one posts a potentially career-altering 140 character statement, forgive us for greeting it with a smidgen of skepticism (or failing to take it seriously all together). As was the case of Waka Flocka Flame, who voiced his dissatisfaction with the music industry on Wednesday. “This game 2 fake. I quite rap after this year [sic]” he tweeted. Despite our hesitation (or refusal) to believe those words, Waka got on the phone with Atlanta radio station V103 on Thursday to confirm his feelings. “Yep. Absolutely true,” he said in regard to the tweet. “The game as a whole is fake. I’m tired of just going through what I go through, and at the end of the day the forecast is just rain, rain on my world.” Someone give the man a hug (or an umbrella). Yes, there is no shortage of current “musicians” (or “rappers“) that can easily be described as fake. (A list of the those who have gotten under Waka’s skin? That would be far too easy.) But while the radio host pleaded with him to remain in the game for the sake of her ears (and ours!) the man was resistant. “Words can’t explain how I feel.” Wow, really? (We guess that means you can call us insensitive bullies if you like, but we can’t help that we still love “No Hands.” More, please!)

Of course we’ve heard rumors of retirement from rappers before, but Waka did seem pretty adamant that it wasn’t about the fame or the money (“I don’t got no kids…I just know I can’t stand fake people and fake stuff”), and he was serious about taking a job at Walmart (if they’re hiring). If retail doesn’t work out, he can probably swing a full-time gig with PETA.
