Outdoor Adventures
Outdoor Adventures is a program housed in the Student Recreation Center and serves the UNCG community with its three divisions: Adventure Trips, Rental & Trip Center (outdoor equipment rental) and The Edge (indoor climbing wall). Outdoor Adventures strives to blend recreation and education to offer a quality outdoor experience for every participant.
Our mission is to promote healthy, active lifestyles through outdoor recreation activities for the UNCG community. We aspire to enhance our participants’ environmental awareness and technical outdoor skills while fostering a sense of community and encouraging positive relationships.

Adventure Trips
The Adventure Trips and Clinics Program provides opportunities for the UNCG community to participate and explore various outdoor recreation opportunities. Primarily, our trips venture all over the Southeast United States. Occasionally, we offer specialty trips that head to other domestic and international destinations.
The majority of the trips and clinics are designed for beginners, providing many opportunities to learn and participate in different outdoor activities in a safe and introductory environment. We offer trips and clinics in the following categories: Backpacking, Biking, Canoeing, Caving, Hiking, Rock Climbing, Coastal Kayaking, Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), Whitewater Kayaking and Rafting. Adventure trips and clinics are led by student and professional staff members trained to provide each participant with a safe, enjoyable, and memorable outdoor adventure.
Rental Center
Heading out on a personal adventure? Outdoor Adventures has an abundance of resources to help you prepare. The Rental and Trip Center provides basic camping equipment at a low rental cost to UNCG community members. For a full list of rental items and prices, click here.
In addition to gear rental, our Resource Center has many free informational brochures and maps to assist in trip planning and discovering the best destination for your next outdoor excursion. Our well-informed and experienced staff can also advise you on any trip planning questions you may have.
The Edge
The Edge is UNCG’s indoor rock climbing facility. The Edge provides a safe, exciting, and challenging climbing environment for a great range of skill levels. Climbing routes are set with different skill levels in mind so there is always something for everyone, whether it is your first time climbing or you are an advanced climber.
We encourage all climbers at the Edge to become belay certified to increase your involvement in the climbing community. The Edge offers belay clinics twice weekly (times vary each semester) and are $5. After the clinic, take your belay test to become certified!
