Director of Strategic Initiatives
Mike Tarrant is the Director of Strategic Initiatives at UNCG, where he helps coordinate the planning and development of short and long-range strategies for achieving the University’s top priorities. Mike serves as the primary liaison between UNCG and the federal & state government. His responsibilities include strategic communications, state and federal relations as well as military affairs.
Before joining UNCG in September 2009, Mike worked to advance the government relations efforts for the 17-campuses of the University of North Carolina while serving in the Office of Federal Government Relations at UNC General Administration (GA). In 2008, Mike was one of 18 Americans selected as a Henry Luce Scholar. As a Luce Scholar, Mike worked at the National University of Singapore under the direction of the Vice President for University and Global Relations, Professor Lily Kong. Tarrant, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in political science and communication studies.
