What is the vision of “quality” in community support for people with developmental disabilities?

Quality is a concept of many dimensions. For over 25 years, the Human Services Research Institute has championed the vision of people with developmental disabilities living lives characterized by freedom, aspiration, opportunity, joy, community membership and contribution. A primary focus of this work has been helping others design and implement high quality supports and determine if these supports are helping people with developmental disabilities to live the good life described in this vision.

When we take the measure of how well we are doing in supporting people with developmental disabilities in communities throughout the nation, the quest begins and ends with the people we seek to serve. Through this work we have gathered a community of learning and practice around quality enhancement that seeks excellence in support through partnership, research, dialogue and collaborative demonstration. This collaborative journey has yielded a body of knowledge, tools and models on quality enhancement that are available on this website.

This site is your invitation to join the quality community in its journey to fulfill the vision of a positive future for all people with developmental disabilities. Please help us to enrich our learning and expand our community by providing feedback and alerting us to new and important information on the topic of quality assurance and enhancement.
