Saki Biyori OAD Scheduled

The 14th collected volume of Ritz Kobayashi’s bishoujo mahjong manga Saki will be released on July 25, 2015. Limited edition copies of the book will include an OAD based on Saya Kiyoshi’s spin-off four-panel manga Saki Biyori. The ongoing Saki Biyori manga premiered in 2011 and presently has 3 compiled volumes of its own.

Koji Morimoto Animates New TV Spot

iM@S Cinderella Girls First Trailer Released
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014The homepage for next year’s IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls television series has added its first streaming trailer. Most of the core staff of studio A-1 Pictures’ 2011 IDOLM@STER television anime will reunite to produce the adaptation of the “Cinderella Girls” mobile game spin-off from the original iM@S game franchise. A promotional Blu-ray and DVD advertising the new TV series will go on sale on November 5. The TV series will premiere in January.

Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete First Trailer Released
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014The homepage for next month’s Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete (Searching for the Lost Future) television series has added its first trailer. Anime studio feel (Kanamemo, Kiss x Sis) is producing the adaptation of Trumple’s adult PC game for an October 4 premiere. The original game revolves around a large school’s astronomy club, which is charged with investigating rumors of unsettling supernatural anomolies around the school.

Second Shingeki no Bahamut Trailer Released
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014The homepage for next month’s Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis (Rage of Bahamut: Genesis) television series has added a new, epic second trailer. Anime studio Mappa is producing the adaptation of Cygames’ mobile card game. Director Keiichi Satou (Asura, Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary) is helming the production for an October 6 premiere.

Baby Steps Second Season Confirmed

This week’s final episode of Baby Steps concluded with an epilogue announcing that the series will continue next spring. Anime studio Pierrot (Naruto) produced the initial 25-episode adaptation of Hikaru Katsuki’s manga about a studious high school boy who takes up tennis as a hobby.
I’m very pleased and relieved to learn that the show will continue, but I’m a bit confused over why the show wasn’t planned as an ongoing production from the outset. Past tennis anime including Ace wo Narae and Tennis no Ouji have been long-running series.

Oshiri Kajiri Mushi Third Series Scheduled

The homepage for the Oshiri Kajiri Mushi (“Butt-Biting Bug”) anime has announced that the franchise will get a third TV series beginning on October 6. The adaptation of the popular children’s song got a 20-episode TV series in 2012 and a 32-episode second series in 2013.

Second Ane Log & Fantasista Stella OADs Scheduled
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014Shogakukan has announced that limited edition copies of the 9th collected volume of Michiteru Kusaba’s soccer manga Fantasista Stella will include the series’ second OAD episode. The episode will adapt the manga’s “R Madrid vs. Japan” story arc. The book & DVD will be released on November 18.
Limited edition copies of the 6th volume of Kenji Taguchi’s comedy manga Ane Log: Moyako Nee-san no Tomaranai Monologue (Sister’s Log: Moyako’s Monologue That Won’t Stop) will include the series’ second OAD episode. The book with bonus DVD will be released on December 18.

Shunji Iwai’s First Anime Online
Friday, September 19th, 2014Acclaimed live-action film director Shunji Iwai’s first anime shorts have been added to YouTube this week. Iwai is best known for his multi-award-winning live-action feature films including Swallowtail Butterfly (1996), April Story (1997), and All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001). Iwai also wrote director Ryuhei Kitamura’s 2009 rotoscoped sci-fi anime short film Baton. Iwai’s three “Town Workers” anime shorts are likewise rotoscope animation.

God Eater TV Anime Announced

Bandai Namco Games has revealed word that anime studio ufotable (Kara no Kyokai, Fate/zero) will produce an anime TV series based on the popular God Eater Playstation action game franchise. ufotable produced a 12-minute promotional anime based on the God Eater Burst video game in 2011.
