Bright Network Features

This page gives you a quick rundown of some of the features available now in Bright, and what we have to look forward to in forthcoming releases.

Content Features

Bright supports a wide variety of different types of content.  If you want to take a look at some of it in action, have a look at the demo site.

Straight HTML Formatting

Because Bright is built on top of WordPress, it contains a powerful, easy-to-use editor to let you put together articles and courses in straightforward HTML text-and-graphics.   It’s incredibly easy to use, and whatever you create will respond to the theme you choose for your site.

  Video Embedding

You can embed YouTube or Vimeo links into your posts so that content on those sites is referenced within your training.  Alternatively, you can upload a variety of media types and link to them directly, such as:
jpg jpeg png gif mp3 mov avi wmv midi mid pdf
(Note:  space on Bright is limited, so you may find that uploading very large files won’t work).

SCORM Content

Because Bright uses ScormCloud, it is a fully compliant SCORM engine, and will host and run SCORM SCO’s.  ScormCloud is a highly compatible implementation of the SCORM standard, and you’re unlikely to run into compatibility issues.
As you would expect, you can track your trainees – you can view progress reports for courses or trainees.

Theming and Customisation

There are so many ways in which you can customise the look and feel of your Bright site.  Here are some of the main ones:

WordPress Themes

Bright has a number of popular WordPress themes available as well as some we’ve built ourselves.  Most of these themes contain a huge number of graphical options, allowing you to change layout, colour schemes, background images and header / logo graphics.

Get Organised With Pages

If you wish, you can set up your own, custom hierarchical page-structure in your training site.  You can build one or more menus to contain these pages (or any other content you wish to link to), and add them to your theme.

Widgets

Within your site, you can reserve areas of the page for the display of related data, such as Recent Posts, Recent Comments, Calendars, or areas of text you have written yourself.  These are called Widgets, and they integrate into whatever theme you choose, allowing you even more flexibility over the look of your site.

Your Own Domain Name

Simply buy a domain name representing your business, configure it to point to our server and then use it for your site.  This creates a very professional-looking website with a domain name related to your brand.

Security

We take security very seriously on Bright, and we appreciate that sometimes, the content you upload will be of a sensitive nature.  At the same time, everyone is different, so we give you some choices around access control:

• You can set up your site so that users need a log-in to access it, or make it open for anyone to view.
• If you wish, you can configure some parts of your site to require a log-in, and other parts to be open.
• Assign author, editor, contributor or admin roles to people on your site.
• Enable spam prevention and brute-force password cracking.
• Encrypt your entire site to run over HTTPS (certificate required).

Plugins

Bright comes with a set of plugins which can provide extra, 3rd party functionality on your site.  These can be activated or deactivated according to what you wish to achieve.  Here are some example plugins you can choose:

• Akismet: configure this plugin for your site to add CAPTCHAs and prevent users adding spam comments to your posts.
• Polldaddy: configure this plugin to add surveys and questionnaires to your site.
• Google Analytics:  monitor traffic on your site with the premiere traffic analysis application from Google.
