Here is a one off custom wall unit that I worked on with a good friend of mine. I designed and built most of the cabinetry and oversaw the install. Reclaimed lumbar from a local sawing company in Stouffville, Ontario was the center piece of the unit. We hand picked a 200+ year old Douglas Fir barn support beam for the cabinet top and from the same lot ripped down more pieces for shelving. My friend did all the finishing and did a beautiful job bringing out the unique grain structure with a hand rubbed stain while keeping the original hand hewn edges in tact. The design is a comfortable blend of traditional and contemporary details, giving new life to old wood.
