The Contented Cow in Northfield is pleased to present critically-acclaimed and popular Twin Cities singer/songwriter Martin Devaney, appearing along with multi-instrumentalist and long-time collaborator Jake Hyer, on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 8 to 10 p.m. This performance is free and open to the public.

Dubbed “the Mayor of St. Paul” by friends and compatriots in the Twin Cities music scene, Devaney is a classically-trained musician and renowned singer-songwriter with six albums to his credit, each garnering more and more praise from critics and fans. His latest release, “House of Rust,” puts Devaney on the brink of national stardom. He has been described as “a charming, bushy haired, sweet-voiced tunesmith” by No Depression magazine (the go-to- source for lovers of alt-country music), and has quickly become known for his poetic, yet unpretentious songs and inspired live performances. Devaney has shared the stage with an impressive list of national acts including Andrew Bird, Mason Jennings, The Jayhawks, Semisonic, Soul Asylum, Billy Bragg, Evan Dando, Damien Jurado, Rhett Miller, Mike Doughty, Mary Lou Lord, The Roots, Southern Culture on the Skids, and Richard Buckner.

Northfield Hospice invites you to pay tribute to someone special in your life and make the season brighter by adding lights to its “Tree of Remembrance.”

Kathy Blomquist, Director of Northfield Hospice, said a decorated tree at Northfield Hospital will symbolize gratitude for those who have meaning to us and have made a difference in our lives.

“This can serve as a memorial to someone you miss, a tribute to a special person in your life or a “thank you” for service or kindness,” she said.

Individuals and families can purchase a single light for $10 or a string of lights for $100. Funds raised from this event will be used in the hospice program to support those with life-limiting illnesses. Forms are available at Northfield Homecare & Hospice, 700 Division, or online at northfieldhospital.org/services/hospice.

Come see what all the construction has been about! All Saints Episcopal Church invites the Northfield community to an open house on Saturday, November 1 (All Saints Day), and a festive Eucharist with the Rt. Rev. Brian N. Prior, Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota, on Sunday, November 2, in celebration of the completion of our facilities renewal and renovation project.

Completely replacing everything but our historic 1866 "Prairie Gothic" worship space, the 12,000 sq ft expansion was designed from the ground up to meet the growing needs of our parish as well as to serve our local community. The new facility makes use of sustainable building techniques and energy efficient systems to reflect our care for the environment. Design, labor, and materials were all sourced locally whenever possible.

The Saturday open house runs from 1-5pm, and will include tours and refreshments interspersed with brief presentations, including a demonstration of our newly expanded organ and a brief history of All Saints. The program will close with Evening Prayer at 5pm. The Sunday Eucharist is at 10:30pm, followed by lunch. Please see allsaintsnorthfield.org for details and a full schedule.
